In an effort to encourage participation in local area running events, Los Angeles Frontrunners offers the LAFR Grand Prix Series. The “Grand Prix” format is used by many running clubs as a fun and exciting way to generate interest in racing and competition.

So what exactly is a Grand Prix Series? Take a bunch of LAFR members, a variety of races over the course of 12 months, and award points to each person for their performance. Points are awarded in each division and additional points can be earned for setting a PR, wearing your LAFR uniform, or just finishing a race!

There are three divisions of competition in the Grand Prix:

Champions Race: The Champions Race determines overall Grand Prix Champions. Scores are calculated using the WAVA Age-Graded tables. Trail Master Race: The Trail Master Race is a combination points & age-graded competition that determines the club Trail Champ.
Age-Group: Points are awarded according to how you place in your age group compared to other LAFR members.

Back for 2014 is the LAFR Challenge and the distance is the 10K. The LAFR 10K Challenge is a 10K competition with awards for the most 10Ks run, the fastest, and the biggest PR. See rules/scoring for details.

The Grand Prix Series is open to all members regardless of age or experience. Whether you’re a new runner looking to enter your first race or an experienced competitor looking for your next big challenge — everyone is welcome!
